Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis recently unveiled plans to revamp the capital city introducing the Megalos Peripatos for improving the quality of life in the city as well attracting international visitors.

The new Omonia Square in downtown Athens was unveiled tonight, completely renovated, with a beautiful water fountain. As we remember, decades ago, Omonia was sporting the famous sintrivani (Water fountain)

Hundreds of people gathered and passed by the downtown spot on Thursday night still observing distancing as Greece slowly opening up from the lockdown restrictions

In a speech the mayor praised the fountain’s innovative design as well the ecologically friendly function, saying that it uses a fraction of the water used by conventional fountains and is also energy efficient. He added, that now is “an oasis of cool,” in the heart of Athens that it will help lower the temperature in its vicinity and filter some of the air pollution.
